As of show of unflinching love and support for her country Nigeria, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, The DG, World Trade Organization (WTO) has reiterated her commitment towards providing the needed support for the country’s export capacity and empowering female entrepreneurs; thereby contributing to Nigeria’s economic development.

Dr. Ngozi made this known during her working visit to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs where she was received by Geoffrey Onyeama, Honorable Minister of Foreign Affairs, and the Honourable Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Amb. Zubairu Dada in Abuja.

The WTO boss who expressed her full commitment to creating more jobs for many Nigerians said that she was ready to empower the country’s female entrepreneurs and rebrand Nigeria’s export commodity.

She also revealed that her organization has started supporting Shea butter production in the country as she hopes that the country becomes the world’s major exporter of the commodity.

Dr. Okonjo-Iweala further expressed appreciation to all Nigerians, who in one way or the other supported her bid to become the WTO boss. She also thanked the Nigerian government, led by President Muhammadu Buhari for his support all through the campaign phase.

Geoffrey Onyeama, Honorable Minister of Foreign Affairs, on his part congratulated Dr. Ngozi on her emergence as WTO boss. He also noted that her victory does not only symbolize hope for Nigeria but the continent of Africa.

The honourable Minister, who described trade as a major proponent of development, noted that Nigeria will continue to offer all the necessary support she needs to succeed on the world stage.

Okonjo-Iweala officially resumed duty on March 1, 2021, at WTO headquarters located in Geneva, Switzerland. WTO is an international organization responsible for managing and enforcing the rules of international trade.
