Women of Feminist Coalition make 2021 TIME 100 Next List

Amid a global pandemic, young people all over the world are rewriting history. The TIME 100 Next List showcases global artists, phenoms, leaders, innovators, and advocates shaping the future. Dan Macsai, Editorial Director of the TIME 100 says, “Everyone on this list is poised to make history. And in fact, many already have.”

Alongside Nigerian-American author Ijeoma Oluo and many others, Feyikemi ‘FK’ Abudu, Damilola Odufuwa, and Odunayo Eweniyi were listed in the TIME 100 NEXT as advocates challenging systemic injustice and pushing for gender equality.

During the global #EndSARS movement, Damilola Odufuwa, and Odunayo Eweniyi, founders of the Feminist Coalition, sprang into action raising donations in Bitcoin to offer protesters medical assistance, legal aid, and mental health support. Feyikemi ‘FK’ Abudu later joined forces with the Feminist Coalition and the organization- comprising 13 founding members, raised more than $387,000 in two weeks. Together, these women pushed a global protest against police brutality, freed hundreds of unlawfully arrested protesters, provided free medical treatments for the injured, and monetary compensation to families who had lost their loved ones in the heat of the protests.

“Their crucial role in the protests”, writes Haynes, TIME writer, “demonstrates the importance of having women in leadership.”
