As part of the government’s effort in providing a sustainable, reliable, stable, and affordable power supply to its citizenries, the Nigerian government has resolved to partner with its Egyptian counterpart on the implementation of the Siemens deal project and renewable energy.

Mr. Sale Mamman, Minister of Power, disclosed this in Abuja during a meeting with the Egyptian Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Ihab Awad; citing that Nigeria wants to learn from Egypt’s successful implementation of a power upgrade with Siemens AG.

The Presidential Power Initiative, otherwise known as the Siemens Project, was formed between Nigeria and Germany during a visit by the German Chancellor, Angela Merkel, and her business delegation which included Joe Kaeser, Siemens AG CEO.  The cooperation between the two nations is aimed at expanding Nigeria’s power grid capacity to 25,000 megawatts; thereby resolving the challenges in the power sector.

Mr. Mamman, during the meeting, noted that the partnership with Egypt was not only centered on the Siemens project, but also boost collaboration on renewable energy, and improving other sectors of the electricity value chain.

According to the Power Minister: “The President had reasoned that obtaining more information from Egypt will enable Nigeria to maximize our agreement with Siemens, towards the total overhaul of our power grid and distribution systems”.
