COVID-19 Confirmed cases in Africa rise to over 4 million

According to the latest figures from the Africa Centre for Disease Control (CDC) as regards the COVID-19, some 4,429,822 infections had been recorded in Africa, with a death toll of 117,913 and 3,113,643 recoveries

The World Health Organization (WHO) attributes the hike in the infection and death rates to laxity in adherence to COVID-19 containment measures as well as the rush by governments to reopen their countries. Many countries on the continent are battling a third wave of the pandemic, one described by experts as more deadly that the initial two. Although many African countries have been vaccinating their populations against COVID-19 for weeks, but progress has been slow. Supply problems, confusion surrounding vaccination schedules, and hesitancy for fear of side effects have been causing delays.

The Africa CDC has also warned that inoculations delivered to Africa through the World Health Organization-backed COVID-19 Vaccines Global Access (COVAX) scheme will not be enough to contain the pandemic. South Africa, Morocco, Tunisia, Ethiopia, and Egypt are among the African countries with the most cases in the continent
